Check Your Karma
I know I've had many must read's lately, but Karma Khullar's Mustache really is a must read. My daughter is only 4, but this is another book that I will be saving for her. Karma goes through so much as she begins middle school, but it all seems to work out.
Karma has discovered she has a mustache growing in. She is losing her best friend to a new girl from California. Two boys at school are calling her names. Her dad has lost his job and is the new stay at home parent. These are only a fraction of the horrible things happening this year. Karma is funny, kind, and smart. She survives it all and actually turns her nickname, "Stash Attack," into something positive.
I loved every page of this book. It takes you right into the Khullar home. It had me craving food with, "real flavor," the entire time. Who wants a sandwich when you can have a tiffin filled with homemade Indian food. This book should be in every classroom, encouraging kids to be kind to others, even when they are different.
