Mouth of the South
I loved this book as much as my daughter did. Melvin the Mouth is based on the true story of a real legend. This tale is about Mel Blanc, who was known as the, "Man of 1,000 Voices." He was the voice for Woody Woodpecker, Marvin the Martian, Barney Rubble, Tweety, Daffy Duck, and the list goes on and on. His daughter-in-law wrote this book about his childhood. Katherine Blanc really captured the magic of Melvin.
Melvin had one of those imaginations where he could be anywhere and do anything in his mind. When he was getting dressed, he became a dragon . When he was in the hallway at school, he had to run and make this wonderful, "Whoooosh," sound. Everyone gets annoyed with Melvin and his loud noises, but this is how his talent emerged. Here is a quote from Melvin's bathtub scene. "After dinner a storm churns the waters. A ship is sinking. I'm a strong tugboat, towing it to safety."
Throughout this book, you read all of the noises. I don't know about your child, but in my experience children love you to make big sounds during stories. It makes the book come to life. This story is also brought to life by the extremely talented illustrator, Jeffrey Ebbeler. All of the pages are magical, you can imagine knowing Melvin. This book is definitely a gem.
