I hadn't realized how much I love cloth bound books until I received The Worm and the Bird in the mail. The saddest part is because, I don't believe I have ever owned one. The cover is this sparkly bronze color. It is just so pretty!!! This book is a work of art. I felt similarly about The Cranky Caterpillar , like I was looking at a collection of artwork. Coralie Bickford - Smith chose to use few colors and it makes the book rich and modern.
The story is about a worm who feels so crowded beneath the ground. He never rests. Worm just keeps tunneling through the dirt, dreaming of a place where he can be alone. While Worm is working away, Bird is waiting above ground. The bird has admirable patience, never moving, just watching. The worm decides today is the day to leave the dirt and find peace. Immediately, the bird grabs the worm and flies off. The bird also feels like his world is too crowded. What will happen to these two creatures looking for solace?
I asked the Author if she would be writing another book about Worm and Bird. She said, "...after my honeymoon otherwise my husband will give up on me. It's already 1.5 years too late 😀." Whatever she writes next, we know it will be a work of art.
