As soon as I saw the title Sticker Girl I was drawn in. When I was in elementary school my friends and I used to collect stickers. We would cut the sheet so that they were all individual and then organize them. Animal stickers were in a separate envelope from ballet stickers, and so on. Then we would trade them, or sell them for more sticker money!
The main character in the series is named Martina and she is extremely shy. Her dad brings her home a sheet of stickers, which is her favorite gift. These stickers are different though, they come to life. The stickers help her get over her shyness and help her make friends. Each sticker helps her make it through an adventure. In the second book, out next week, Martina runs for class president and heads up a field trip. Her new set of stickers take her on a wild ride.
This series by Janet Tashijian is exactly what young girls should be reading. Martina is a great role model. The characters are diverse and deal with real life kid issues. The books have fun illustrations by Inga Wilmink. These are a must buy!
